Introducing Pharmacogenomic (PGx) Testing

Pharmacogenomic (PGx) Testing

Pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing is a personalized approach to medicine and is used to assist clinicians in defining individualized drug therapies. The collection is a simple, non-invasive procedure of gently swabbing the patient’s cheek. Test data is provided from your PGx report and indicates how well your body metabolizes medications in the following categories:

  • ADHD
  • Cardiovascular
  • Diabetes
  • Gastrointestinal (GI)
  • Mental Health
  • Pain Management
  • Rheumatology

Whether you are starting a medication or looking to optimize your current medication therapy, our PGx test report will assist in determining the right drug and correct dose. Based on your genes, our comprehensive PGx report will list more than 300 prescribed drugs as either:

  • Standard Precautions (Prescribe Normal)
  • Use With Caution
  • Consider Alternatives

Most commercial insurance carriers provide reimbursement for PGx testing. For those without coverage, Great Lakes Labs has an affordable cash payment option. Our billing specialists are available to answer any questions and to provide additional information. If there are any copayments due, our lab will make payment arrangements directly with the patient, including addressing the needs of those with financial difficulty.

PGx Testing

PGx is short for pharmacogenomics. Pharmacogenomics is the study of how genes (DNA) affect an individual's response to drugs. Each one of us responds to drugs in different ways. As a result, the drug that works for some may not work for others.
